DESCRIPTION:Join textile artist Hayley Mills-Styles in this hand embroidery workshop to create your own stitched memory hoop. Using a variety of fabrics\, threads and trimmings you will create a pocket design to store memories. Hayley will show you a rage of hand embroidery stitches to embellish your design and personalise your embroidery hoop. All materials and equipment will be provided but if you have any trimmings you would like to use\, please bring them along. The workshop is suitable for beginners and people with embroidery experience who would like to try something new. \nWorkshop facilitator: Hayley Mills-Styles is a Yorkshire based textile artist specialising in embroidery. She works from her home studio by the sea in Scarborough. Using fabric and thread\, she creates textile drawings and objects which tell stories. Her stories often have an autobiographical theme\, exploring mental health and personal memories.\nHayley works with a range of traditional textile techniques like hand embroidery\, appliqué and English Patchwork\, combining them with the digitally embroidered drawings using her Pfaff Creative 3.0 sewing and embroidery machine. Her work has been exhibited in museums and heritage sites across the North including Whitby Museum\, Sunny Bank Mills and the Thackray Museum of Medicine.

DESCRIPTION:In August 2023\, Sue Ferguson died. Sue was a driving force in our early years when we set out to take Stretford Public Hall into community ownership. Her passion for the project was contagious. Sue got involved with every aspect of volunteering at Stretford Public Hall. \nAs part of our Dead Good Stretford festival\, we are running a quilt-making workshop to commemorate our dear friend Sue. DESCRIPTION:Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats present an evening of swinging big band sounds to get you dancing the night away. Look forward to classic big band numbers from Duke Ellington\, Benny Goodman\, Glenn Miller and many more\, as well as hits from British bands including Ivy Benson and Ted Heath and even some Latin jazz surprises along the way. Completing the line up are two fantastic vocalists in songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. \nHere’s a taste of what you can expect:  \n \nDr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats big band was formed in 2002 by musical director Catherine Tackley\, Professor of Music at the University of Liverpool. Although the band is based and rehearses in Lymm\, Cheshire\, players come from across the North West region. Featuring two vocalists\, the band has a wide repertoire\, with a particular reputation for stylish performances of classic swing. As a result\, the band is in high demand to play for vintage dancing. Concerts\, weddings\, parties\, balls and functions all feature in a typical year in Dr Jazz’s calendar. \nIn 2022 the band celebrated its twentieth year with a concert in the new Tung Auditorium in Liverpool. Highlights from the past two decades include performances at venues as diverse as the Royal Northern College of Music\, Tatton Park\, the Troxy in London and Invisible Wind Factory in Liverpool as well as tours to Ireland\, Cornwall and London. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Supported Internships are a work-based study programme for 16-24 year old young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. They offer the opportunity for young people to experience real work placements with the aim to progress into sustainable\, paid employment. \nWe are looking for local businesses to come along\, have a cup of tea and chat to the interns at our first ever reverse job fair \nOur 2023/2024 interns are currently on their second placement\, and would love to speak to you and your organisation about the skills they have learned and what they can bring to your team. \nWHAT IS THE REVERSE JOBS FAIR? \nA Reverse Jobs Fair gives potential employees a platform to showcase their skills and abilities to visiting employers. Each young person has their own station which they have prepared in advance for the event. \nIt is an alternative recruitment route into employability for young people who may find traditional job fairs inaccessible and intimidating. \nIt is an opportunity for interns to talk to you and you to them in a less formal\, more relaxed setting. \nWHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR YOU? \n\nIdentify potential new\, job-ready employees/apprentices from the local community and find out how they could contribute to your workforce.\n\n\nMeet multiple candidates\, hear about the skills\, and experience our talented interns have gained in a relaxed\, less formal setting.\n\n\nLearn about Trafford’s Supported Internship programmes.\n\n\nTakes the fear away for both you and the interns.\n\n\nNetwork with other employers looking to increase their inclusivity\n\n\nLearn about the support available to employers wanting to develop a more inclusive workforce.\n\nThere is no obligation for you to offer employment/apprenticeship \nLight refreshments will be available. DESCRIPTION:About this event: \nAre you helping people in your community or through your role with money problems? Do you have experience of facing barriers to receive money guidance yourself? \nIn this day-long event we will take part in workshops to share good practice in overcoming barriers to good practice in money guidance. \nTogether we will work on identifying barriers\, coming up with solutions and we will make sure that giving the best guidance we can and we know when and where to signpost to specialist advice. \nAs well as hearing from speakers\, we will be encouraging participants to share their own examples challenges we face and of good practice\, so that through this Money Guiders England Network event we all experience being part of a living community of practice. \nW e hope that participants will come away with new ideas to try out\, awareness of steps to take to overcome some barriers and will feel further supported in their work. \nThere will be plenty of opportunities for networking and getting to know our fellow money guidance practitioners. \nPlease note that this in person event is limited to 100 participants so please book early to guarantee your place.
