DESCRIPTION:Dance for Parkinson’s brings their award-winning dance program to Stretford Public Hall every Wednesday from 12 pm.\nIt is run by Lewis Bailey who is the Dance Teacher and Exercise Provider for the Parkinson’s group. He has over 20 years of experience as a Latin and Ballroom dancer and thoroughly enjoys teaching others to dance. \nThe class is for anyone affected by Parkinson’s. The dance for Parkinson’s class is a great way to get the body moving in a fun and inclusive environment. Dancing is known to reduce stress and alleviate physical and emotional pressures from the body and is therefore cited as being one of the best forms of exercise to take part in. \nThe class involves a number of warm up activities which range from breathing exercises\, stretches for the body\, and movement sequences. We then move onto some Latin and Ballroom steps\, or some creative movement to music. It caters for a wide range of abilities and the class can be done seated throughout if required. \nIS THERE A CHARGE \nNo\, all classes are funded by the Trafford branch of Parkinson’s UK \nDO I NEED TO BOOK\nNo\, just turn up 10 minutes before the class is due to start.

DESCRIPTION:‘Stolen’ reveals how women who had the misfortune to fall pregnant ‘out of wedlock’ were treated in an Ireland that was heavily influenced by the Catholic Church. Over 80\,000 unmarried mothers were incarcerated in mother and baby institutions\, mainly run by catholic nuns from 1922 to 1998. Most were cruelly separated from their babies after birth. Many of the children were adopted within Ireland and abroad – rendered untraceable and unaware of their birth story. Others were fostered out by the state as cheap farm labour from the age of six\, often in circumstances abysmally devoid of care and love. 9\,000 infants died in these institutions from 1922 to 1998\, a rate that\, on occasion\, was five times the national average infant mortality rate. Survivors expose the shocking details of their treatment in a scandal that sparked a government inquiry into the fate of unmarried women who fell pregnant in 20th century Ireland. \nAward winning Director Margo Harkin\, of Besom Productions has been a filmmaker since 1984 when she co-founded the Channel 4 workshop Derry Film & Video. Her titles include Hush-A-Bye Baby (drama) and the documentaries\, Bloody Sunday: A Derry Diary and 12 Days in July. In 2019 she was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Documentary Filmmaking by Docs Ireland. In 2020 Margo was elected a member of Aosdána\, an Irish government sponsored organisation honouring artists who have made an outstanding contribution to the arts. Margo’s films Hush-A-Bye Baby and Waveriders were listed by the Irish Times among the top Irish Films ever made. \n\nThere will be a pre-recorded Q&A after this screening with acclaimed director Margo Harkin of Besom Productions. \nPlease arrive at 1.30pm for 2pm screening. Food & refreshments provided. \nThis special screening of Stolen has been organised as a commemorative event by Renewing Roots\, with funding from the Government of Ireland (DCEDIY Commemorative Grant Scheme). This is a free event\, open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Kick off your day with some yoga with Gaynor Mullin. Gaynor has been running our Tuesday yoga classes since we started Wellbeing Tuesdays. Open to all abilities – this inclusive class\, will help you to improve your strength and flexibility\, along with reducing stress and strengthening your immune system and general wellbeing. \nThe suggested donation for this class is £5 and is based on what you might pay for a similar class elsewhere. If you are able to donate it helps us keep these classes going and affordable for all. \nPay what you can\nAll our Wellbeing Tuesday classes and events are ‘pay what you can’ basis. This means that everyone regardless of finances\, can access events and activities here at Stretford Public Hall and everyone will always get the same experience. \nEach class will have a suggested donation based on what similar classes in the area cost to attend. If you are able to donate this price\, it will help us to keep this programme of events running for the future.
