They offer the opportunity for young people to experience real work placements with the aim to progress into sustainable\, paid employment. \nWe are looking for local businesses to come along\, have a cup of tea and chat to the interns at our first ever reverse job fair \nOur 2023/2024 interns are currently on their second placement\, and would love to speak to you and your organisation about the skills they have learned and what they can bring to your team. \nWHAT IS THE REVERSE JOBS FAIR? \nA Reverse Jobs Fair gives potential employees a platform to showcase their skills and abilities to visiting employers. DESCRIPTION:Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats present an evening of swinging big band sounds to get you dancing the night away. Look forward to classic big band numbers from Duke Ellington\, Benny Goodman\, Glenn Miller and many more\, as well as hits from British bands including Ivy Benson and Ted Heath and even some Latin jazz surprises along the way. Completing the line up are two fantastic vocalists in songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. \nHere’s a taste of what you can expect:  \n \nDr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats big band was formed in 2002 by musical director Catherine Tackley\, Professor of Music at the University of Liverpool. Although the band is based and rehearses in Lymm\, Cheshire\, players come from across the North West region. Featuring two vocalists\, the band has a wide repertoire\, with a particular reputation for stylish performances of classic swing. As a result\, the band is in high demand to play for vintage dancing. Concerts\, weddings\, parties\, balls and functions all feature in a typical year in Dr Jazz’s calendar. \nIn 2022 the band celebrated its twentieth year with a concert in the new Tung Auditorium in Liverpool. Highlights from the past two decades include performances at venues as diverse as the Royal Northern College of Music\, Tatton Park\, the Troxy in London and Invisible Wind Factory in Liverpool as well as tours to Ireland\, Cornwall and London. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Moving with Heart - A Somatic Movement Workshop on Grief
DESCRIPTION:This somatic movement workshop will focus on deepening the connection to the body as an act of self-nurture\, with particular focus on amplifying the heart and recognising it as a central component to grief and an expression of unity. \nMovements will be relaxed\, with an inquisitive focus on listening deeply to the body. No previous dance experience is required\, please wear comfortable clothing\, you can move in. \nThe class will be led by Fae Wolfe\, a somatic movement facilitator based in Manchester. Fae holds a master’s degree in dance and somatic wellbeing. As a registered Movement Facilitator and coach with ISMETA\, Fae offers personalised one-to-one sessions\, and group workshops. \nFree tickets are available\, as well as low cost concessions tickets. DESCRIPTION:In August 2023\, Sue Ferguson died. Sue was a driving force in our early years when we set out to take Stretford Public Hall into community ownership. Her passion for the project was contagious. Sue got involved with every aspect of volunteering at Stretford Public Hall. \nAs part of our Dead Good Stretford festival\, we are running a quilt-making workshop to commemorate our dear friend Sue. The quilt will be our way of capturing all of our memories of Sue. \nThe workshop is open to anyone who knew Sue\, who wishes to contribute. \nYou do not have to be able to sew or even to help directly with the quilt-making – you can contribute by sending a message\, or an image\, a song lyric\, or just a couple of words that you think described Sue. \nPlease send your contributions to Karen Nolan\, who will be designing the quilt and running the workshop. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of the documentary Dead Good\, a sensitive and life-affirming documentary following three groups of people as they participate in the ritual of care after death. They are supported by a group of women who empower people to take back control. \nEncouraging family and friends to be involved in the whole or any part of the process; from advice around keeping a body at home until the funeral\, to\nbathing and dressing the deceased explaining that embalming is not necessary. And from using their own vehicle to transport the coffin to being bearers for their loved one’s final journey. \nWith extraordinary access\, the film follows three groups of people\, close up\, from after the death through to the ceremony. This relatively unknown work is part of an emerging global movement confronting the way death is approached. Using a variety of fabrics\, threads and trimmings you will create a pocket design to store memories. Hayley will show you a rage of hand embroidery stitches to embellish your design and personalise your embroidery hoop. All materials and equipment will be provided but if you have any trimmings you would like to use\, please bring them along. The workshop is suitable for beginners and people with embroidery experience who would like to try something new. \nWorkshop facilitator: Hayley Mills-Styles is a Yorkshire based textile artist specialising in embroidery. She works from her home studio by the sea in Scarborough. Using fabric and thread\, she creates textile drawings and objects which tell stories. Her stories often have an autobiographical theme\, exploring mental health and personal memories.\nHayley works with a range of traditional textile techniques like hand embroidery\, appliqué and English Patchwork\, combining them with the digitally embroidered drawings using her Pfaff Creative 3.0 sewing and embroidery machine. Her work has been exhibited in museums and heritage sites across the North including Whitby Museum\, Sunny Bank Mills and the Thackray Museum of Medicine.

DESCRIPTION:Big Comedy Shop run comedy sketch and improvisation workshops for young people aged between 6 and 12.
