What we discuss will be up to you\, the community\, and we’ll be crowdsourcing topics via our Discord and Online Monthly Meet Ups. If you are attending the in person event\, we will be providing tea/coffee/snacks and at around 5pm we will wrap things up with alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. \nWe will be hosted by Stretford Public Hall in Manchester — which is home to Friends of Stretford Public Hall. They are one of the organisations in our Makers and Maintainers cohort of organisations who’ve been funded to explore a community tech idea over two years as part of a programme run by Promising Trouble and Power To Change. DESCRIPTION:Nimble Arts North is thrilled to be launching Buzz Music classes for babies\, toddlers and school-age children at Stretford Public Hall at the end of November. \nOur brand new electronic music classes are run by Nimble Arts Director Catherine Burgis\, also known as recording artist and producer Test Card Girl (BBC 6Music One to Watch 2022\, Greater Manchester Mayor’s Artist of the Month April 2023\, as heard on 6Music\, Radio X\, Absolute Radio) They are a unique blend of composing and performing using mini keyboards\, loop pedals and all kinds of weird and wonderful noise makers and technology! \nNo prior experience is needed for any of our classes\, and they are designed to build musicality and rhythm\, develop motor skills\, team work and confidence! Buzz Babes is our peaceful class for 0-pre-crawlers and their parents. \nLet the electronic lullabies wash over you as you create sounds\, sequences and songs using your own mini keyboard (if you want!) – the perfect way to wind down and experience something new! Our mixed aged 6 months – 4 years Buzz Tots classes are ideal for older children and their siblings\, or crawling + babies and toddlers. \nChildren use their voice\, their hands\, and their feet to create their own musical worlds and adults get to join in too! This is a fantastic first step to introducing children to musical instruments and finding their way around a keyboard. \nOur Buzz Kids classes for Reception to Year 2 and Year 3-6 are a more advanced class (again no experience necessary!) where parents can stay and watch (or get on with some work outside the room!). These classes take a musical stimulus each week from which we draw out motifs and ideas to create our own masterpieces. \nWe work on developing musicality through learning by ear\, learning to read symbols\, working together\, experimenting\, composing and performing. Where will our next musical adventures take us? \nHalf-price £5 trial sessions available for Wednesdays 29th November – 20th December \nFull price one-off and half-term blocks available for booking from January 2024 \nBuzz Babes and Buzz Tots can be booked as £10 one-off session (£6 for siblings) or £8 if booked in a half-term block of 6 weeks. \nBuzz Kids can only be booked as a half-term block. Their dance and drug-fuelled quest brings them into contact with some of the darker elements of the scene and tests their friendship to its limits. DESCRIPTION:At Holiday Comedy Club\, they use comedy as a way of getting creative\, playing\, and learning about ourselves as well as performance techniques. \nAvailable for young people aged 6-12 their groups will take part in a drama style workshop where they focus on the funny\, whilst creating comedy characters and sketches rather than stand-up comedy. \nThey use improvisation games and exercises to focus on being in the moment\, building resilience and increasing the confidence of their students all through a comedic lens and storytelling. \nThey encourage children to express themselves and share their observations of the world in a safe and fun environment. \nTheir sessions are filled with fun games and comedy drama techniques where they learn\, develop\, and show our work back to one another: therefore team work is a big part of what they do. \nEvery day at their Holiday Comedy Club we cover different content so your children can attend any number of days. \nBig Comedy Shop runs Improvisation Comedy After School Clubs in several primary schools in Manchester. They also deliver bespoke comedy issue-based workshops in primary and high schools as well as our run Holiday Comedy Club days. \nBig Comedy Shop was founded in 2007 by Ali Kahn who is an award-winning comedy actor and writer whose work includes being a series regular in CBBC comedy shows ‘Still So Awkward’ and CBBC comedy sketch show ‘Class Dismissed” (series 6). SUMMARY:Amid the Mirk Over the Irk: When Irish Meets Klezmer
DESCRIPTION:Either side of an innocuous\, unremarkable river live two immigrant communities shunned by the city in which they live; yet\, these communities came here in search of better times away from pogrom and famine. \nWhere is “here”? Well…”here” can be anywhere\, but for the sake of argument let’s say 19th-Century Manchester and the River Irk that flows through it. Though their cultures seem wildly different\, there is more that unites them that divides them\, in spite of the noxious river between them. \nIn this imagined meeting-of-worlds gig theatre\, the musical fusion of Jewish Klezmer and Irish Trad is explored in all its joy\, melancholy\, love\, sadness\, and infectious danceability; although perhaps discordant on first hearing\, Amid the Mirk Over the Irk explores the natural and quirky points of intersection between these 2 deeply personally significant folk dance musics and – by association – their cultures\, through their 7-8 piece folk-fusion band\, short stories\, and evocative visuals. It explores the intrigue\, awkwardness\, and respect of unfamiliar cultures sharing the same space. \nThe show took Manchester by storm in 2016 when it played to full houses at the Manchester Jewish Museum featuring local legends Mike McGoldrick\, Dezi Donnolly\, and Ange Durcan. \nSince then it has played around the North West\, reaching the finals for Manchester Culture Awards and Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Open Stage competition in 2022. \n\n\n\n\nThis is a ticketed event in two halves separated by a short interval when non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks can be purchased. \nDoors open from 7.10pm for a prompt 7.30pm start. \nStretford Public Hall has step-free access with lift access throughout the building. \nWe also offer a complimentary carer ticket for those who require a carer.
