Stretford Public Hall leads the delivery of Trafford’s Community Volunteer Network – a borough‑wide project designed to strengthen volunteering and support Trafford’s VCFSE sector.
Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and brought about in partnership with the Trafford Community Collective, the project places a Volunteer Coordinator in each of Trafford’s community hubs. Together, these Coordinators form a joined‑up network supporting residents, volunteers and organisations across the borough.
Our role at Stretford Public Hall
The project is delivered from Stretford Public Hall, where our Delivery Officer also serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Stretford neighbourhood. This dual role means we lead the borough‑wide project while directly supporting volunteers, organisations and community groups here in Stretford.
This includes:
- Helping residents find volunteer roles that match their interests, confidence and availability
- Recruiting, training and supporting volunteers who help run activities and services at the Hall
- Working closely with community groups and charities to understand local needs
- Sharing volunteer opportunities across Stretford and neighbouring areas
- Contributing data, insight and learning to Trafford’s developing Volunteer Strategy
- Strengthening collaboration across the VCFSE sector
Why this project matters
Our network aims to make volunteering more accessible, more person‑centred and better connected. By coordinating volunteer support at a local level – and linking it across Trafford – the project helps:
- Residents build confidence, skills and social connections
- Marginalised groups access relevant volunteer opportunities and employment pathways
- Organisations recruit volunteers more effectively
- Volunteers feel valued, supported and part of a wider community
- Trafford develop a long‑term, community‑led approach to volunteering
Key stats from the project so far
As at April 2026 (2.5 years in):
- Our community hub volunteers across Trafford have supported individuals on c195,000 occasions and given over 95,000 hours of their time
- Our hub volunteer coordinators have organised 19 volunteer fairs, supported c6,500 people with signposting advice and on-boarded over 770 new volunteers at the hubs. We’ve responded to over 320 referrals from local support agencies and shared training/employment opportunities on nearly 4,000 occasions.
- We’ve developed a volunteer signposting platform displaying 162 local opportunities across 106 actively recruiting provider organisations, visited by over 100 people every month.
- Our community hub volunteers report feeling valued and respected, supported and well supervised – and over three quarters agree that volunteering improves their health and wellbeing.
