In March 2017, we ran a community share offer, to give local residents a chance to invest in the hall. In total, we raised over £255,000 in community investment. Over 800 local people and organisations invested in the hall.
We sought to raise £250,000 to fund the renovation of the hall’s ballroom. For every pound raised, we received additional funding from the charitable trust Power to Change, who pledged to match the first £100,000 raised by the community. The minimum investment was £100, with the option of paying in four monthly instalments of £25.
About community shares
Community shares are ‘withdrawable’ shares that cannot be sold, traded or transferred between members, unlike shares in a typical company. Members are entitled to a say in how our organisation is run. All members are entitled to one vote – regardless of how many shares they hold.
Investors can withdraw their investment, along with any interest accrued subject to the approval of the Board of Directors. In 2021, the interest rate offered to our investors is 2%.
Our share offer has been awarded the Community Shares Standard Mark which is awarded to offers that meet national standards of good practice. Find out more about the Standard Mark here.
