Balboa workshop with Sam & Jo

If you want to work on your Bal, or are keen to learn, then we’ve a real treat for you, at the beautifully restored Stretford Public Hall. Sam Dobbie from Bristol will be joining our own Jo Barnes, to deliver two one hour workshops…

10.30am Suitable for everybody, including complete beginners.

11.45am Suitable for improvers, or those that attended the first class.

After lunch, the Friends of Stretford Public Hall are running a jazz tea dance with live music, and they’re offering half price tickets to workshop attendees, available from the Stretford Public Hall website.

Sam’s dance journey started out in 2012 after being brought (or arguably dragged) along to a lindy hop social in Toronto, Canada. After some trepidation he found he did actually enjoy dancing after all, and quickly found classes for blues and balboa as well as lindy. Fast forward to the current day and Sam regularly dances and teaches all three styles, and is one of the founding members of Bristol Swing Riot. As well as dancing, he DJs for socials and is a self confessed music nerd.

If you don’t know Joanne, then where have you even been? Jo is one of Manchester’s most prolific swing dancers, and even if you think you don’t know her, we’re fairly sure that you do! She got the balboa bug some years back, and has lost count of the hours of classes and dances she’s attended. Jo has been a driving force behind Manchester Balboa workshops both before and during the pandemic, and she can’t wait to share her passion with you.
