Rip it up – Kneecap (18)

Kneecap is a 2024 comedy-drama about a Belfast hip-hop trio using music to revive the Irish language and assert cultural identity.

Kneecap follows the rise of the Irish hip-hop group Kneecap, composed of Liam Óg “Mo Chara” Ó Hannaidh, Naoise “Móglaí Bap” Ó Cairealláin, and JJ “DJ Próvaí” Ó Dochartaigh, who play fictionalized versions of themselves.

Set in West Belfast in 2019, the film explores their coming-of-age journey, family dynamics, and immersion in the politically charged environment surrounding the Irish language

Before the screening, Join DJClubMCR in an intro to DJing session. At the end of the film you’ll have the opportunity to jump on the decks and mix in a song or two. DJ Club is a Manchester based grassroots community that exists to make DJing and music culture more accessible.=

With FREE  tickets for under‑25s, the programme is designed to be welcoming, low‑cost and accessible, creating space for younger voices while bringing people together through film, conversation and shared experience.
