Stretford House 50++ Exhibition
November 20, 2021 @ 11:00 am - November 26, 2021 @ 5:00 pm
Stretford House 50 ++ brings you an exhibition of original photographs of Stretford from the 1960s & ’70s. This is accompanied by a new film produced using both archival 8mm & recent digital footage.
Stretford House 50++ is a collaborative project between Stretford Local History Society and Manchester Modernist Society. This collaboration celebrates the 50th anniversary of the twenty three floor high-rise block Stretford House in 2018.
The aim of the exhibition is to seek a more positive attitude towards modern architecture, which is often criticised.
Using the famous landmark of Stretford House as the focus of this exhibition, the exhibition is a celebration of the local pride that is held for the 60s tower block. The event will also feature speculation as to what Stretford’s skyline will look like in the next 50 years.
From Saturday 20th to Friday 26th November, 11.00 am to 5.00 pm, at Stretford Public Hall, there will be hourly film screenings of ‘A Short Film About Stretford House’ and an opportunity to view the exhibition of photographs.
From Monday 22nd to Friday 26th November 2021, there will be time slots between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm for exhibition viewing only. (Time slots to be confirmed, please check our website closer to the time or call 0161 989 1689.)
The project has been curated by Bill Mather and supported by Jessica Loveday from Trafford Culture Champions.
