Join us for the Stretford Community Assembly!

An assembly is a way for local people to come together, talk through an issue, hear different perspectives and agree what should happen next. The aim is to reach shared decisions and turn them into action.

Over the past six months, we’ve been speaking to people across Stretford to ask them what they love about Stretford and what they would like to change.

The broad theme that cropped up again and again was community safety. People told us that they don’t always feel safe walking, wheeling and cycling around Stretford; how difficult and unsafe it sometimes is for younger and older people to move around Stretford; the huge impact that roads and car traffic have on our neighbourhood; as well as whether refugees and people seeking asylum feel safe and welcome here.

These conversations have shaped the main question our community assembly will ask: How do we make Stretford a safe place to be?

We’ll explore what ‘safe’ means to all of us, what do we think needs to change, and what can we all do together to make Stretford safer for everyone?

You don’t need any special knowledge or experience to come along. We’ll chat in small groups, making sure everyone gets a chance to take part. We’ll also invite local councillors, organisations and services to come along and listen. We want to agree practical actions and to work out who can help make them happen.

Join us at 5pm for some delicious food from Open Kitchen. The Assembly will run until 8pm with plenty of breaks, refreshments, and chances to move around around the room and meet other people.

We want the Assembly to represent as wide a range of people from Stretford as possible – so whether you’ve lived here all your life or have only just arrived, we’d really like you to be part of it.
