Stretford Public Hall Heritage Group

We are a group of volunteers who care about sharing and preserving the history of Stretford Public Hall.

Since 1879, the Hall has been a place of connection, friendship, and service to the local community. Our goal is to bring its story to life through exhibitions, photographs, and personal memories—inviting everyone to fill in the gaps in its history, shaped by real people, and to feel part of its future.

Our goals

  • Celebrate the Hall’s history – From its founding by the Rylands family to its role today, the Hall has been a part of many lives and events.
  • Build connections – We want to gather and share stories that reflect the community’s past and present.
  • Shape the future – We hope to celebrate key milestones, including the Hall’s 150th anniversary in 2029, with varied learning sessions and community activities.

What we are working on

  • Heritage Projects: Creating interactive displays and exhibitions that invite people of all ages and backgrounds to share their memories and experiences.
  • Leadership: Volunteers are working together to guide and shape the group’s activities through an Interim Committee.
  • Community Stories: Collecting stories, photographs, and ideas to help people understand and celebrate the Hall’s place and role in Stretford.
