Our Stretford Repair Café turns one!
This weekend marks one year since the launch of our monthly Repair Café at Stretford Public Hall – and what a year it’s been!
Over the past 12 months, our brilliant team of volunteer fixers have helped mend all sorts of much-loved items – from kettles to karaoke sets, cuddly toys to coffee makers, clothing, lamps, and treasured heirlooms. The Repair Café has become more than just a place to get things fixed – it’s a space for community connection, skill-sharing and sustainability in action.
We’re proud to be part of the international network of Repair Cafés. The very first event was held on 19 October 2009 in Amsterdam, and there are now more than 2,500 worldwide – including ours! A huge thank you to Stitched Up for getting the Stretford Repair Café started and for passing the baton on to us.
We’re especially grateful to our incredible volunteers, who generously give their time and talent to make it all happen.
To celebrate, we’ve created a short video capturing some of the magic from our first year. Whether you’re a regular visitor or just curious to see what it’s all about, join us this Sunday 29 June from 10am to 2pm. Bring your broken bits, enjoy a cuppa, and soak up the feel-good atmosphere. Our friendly hospitality volunteers will be running the café, serving hot and cold drinks and snacks.
Let’s keep things out of landfill and in use for longer – together!
