Stretford Repair Cafe goes to Parliament!

One of our volunteers, Andrew Chang, headed to Westminster in March to represent Stretford Public Hall at a special Parliamentary Repair Café.

The event, hosted by The Restart Project, Back Market and the Community Repair Network, showcased the environmental and economic benefits of repairing everyday items.

Andrew took with him data from our own Repair Café, compiled by volunteer Eric Atkinson using the data we contribute to from the international RepairMonitor system.

So far, Stretford has logged 186 repairs, with over half successfully fixed and another quarter receiving partial repairs or advice. We’re currently 42nd in the UK for number of recorded repairs — a brilliant achievement for our volunteer team given we’ve only been running a couple of years!

Local MP Andrew Western couldn’t attend the event but has sent a message of support and hopes to visit our Repair Café soon.

The Parliamentary Repair Café encouraged MPs to sign the UK Repair and Reuse Declaration, which calls for policies that make repair easier and more affordable. You can read more at RepairReuseDeclaration.uk

Our Repair Café runs on the last Sunday of every month – our next session will be on Sunday 31st May, 10am – 12pm
