Memory hoops: embroidery workshop

May 10, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join textile artist Hayley Mills-Styles in this hand embroidery workshop to create your own stitched memory hoop. Using a variety of fabrics, threads and trimmings you will create a pocket design to store memories. Hayley will show you a rage of hand embroidery stitches to embellish your design and personalise your embroidery hoop. All materials and equipment will be provided but if you have any trimmings you would like to use, please bring them along. The workshop is suitable for beginners and people with embroidery experience who would like to try something new.

Workshop facilitator: Hayley Mills-Styles is a Yorkshire based textile artist specialising in embroidery. She works from her home studio by the sea in Scarborough. Using fabric and thread, she creates textile drawings and objects which tell stories. Her stories often have an autobiographical theme, exploring mental health and personal memories.
Hayley works with a range of traditional textile techniques like hand embroidery, appliqué and English Patchwork, combining them with the digitally embroidered drawings using her Pfaff Creative 3.0 sewing and embroidery machine. Her work has been exhibited in museums and heritage sites across the North including Whitby Museum, Sunny Bank Mills and the Thackray Museum of Medicine.
